The Right Way to Dispose of our Waste
ad | What do we do with our waste when restoring?
It was only a few years ago that I was in the car with Dean when I noticed a very big, bare mountain, and I remember asking Dean why would anyone get rid of the trees and leave it bare? Dean told me then that hiding under that “mountain” was tons and tons of waste that just gets buried! It was a landfill - I couldn’t believe it.
Since that day I always felt guilty when doing any work on the house to see the amount of waste that gets created.
We do try as much as possible to reuse and recycle, but inevitably as much as you can general waste is always created.
On top of that, we had so many issues trying to get skips into My Tiny Estate, as our gate access is quite restricted, which means that skips couldn’t be delivered and had to go on the road. This meant getting a permit etc and who has the time for all of that!
Truth be told it, was a headache. Recently we discovered HIPPOBAGs, and the new HIPPO app - we are just hooked! I refer to it as the right way to dispose of our waste. They recycle over 95% of what goes in it,which makes me already feel much more comfortable.
The service is very simple to use. You go to their website, and there you can find all the information you need to know.
Once you decide what size bag you want, you can either pay for the bag or pay for the bag with the collection.
You receive your HIPPOBAG through the post, which is very handy at it’s flat-packed for easy storage.
The bag comes with instructions of assembly (just in case you cannot work it out) which literally takes less than 30 seconds. One of the requirements is that you must have the bag within 4 metres of a garden wall or the road so it can be picked up, when you decide that you would like collection to happen. You can book the collection, or buy your HIPPOBAG through the new HIPPO app. You don’t even need to be present once you have booked the collection.
Within the instruction document, it shows in pictures all the items that you can dispose of in the bags.
For us the big winner was their values regarding the environment. They care, and are committed to recycling over 95% of all the waste that they collect. This made us feel a lot less guilty when we created waste that we could recycle ourselves on site.
We have now got our HIPPOBAG ready, for our next project, and we just need to start filling it up.
Another big project coming our way!
